Create a comforting, family-friendly dinner that tastes like your favorite cheeseburger, all cooked in one pot for simple cleanup. This recipe is quick, cheesy, and ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni or rotini pasta
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream or evaporated milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • Optional toppings: chopped pickles, extra mustard, bacon bits

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Stir in the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for one minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and water. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Add the dry pasta, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the heavy cream or evaporated milk until the sauce is creamy.
  7. Add the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth and cheesy.
  8. Serve immediately. Top individual portions with chopped pickles, extra mustard, or bacon bits if desired.

Notes

  • For a bacon cheeseburger twist, cook 4 slices of bacon until crisp, crumble it, and stir half into the pasta mixture before adding the cheese. Reserve the rest for topping.
  • If you prefer a tangier flavor similar to a fast-food burger, add 1 tablespoon of pickle juice along with the heavy cream.
  • This recipe works well for meal prep; store leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to three days.
