Ingredients
Scale
4 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 Tablespoons granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
3 Tablespoons milk (any kind)
1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 Tablespoon chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
Find a microwave-safe mug that holds at least 10-12 ounces.
Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt directly into the mug. Use a small fork to mix these dry ingredients thoroughly.
Add the milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture in the mug.
Stir everything together until just combined. Do not overmix; a few small lumps are fine.
Stir in the chocolate chips, if you are using them.
Place the mug in the microwave. Cook on high power for 60 to 90 seconds. Cooking time varies based on microwave wattage. Start checking at 60 seconds.
The cake is done when the top looks set but the center is still slightly soft and gooey.
Let the mug cake cool for one minute before eating directly from the mug.
Notes
For an eggless mug cake, this recipe works perfectly as written.
If you prefer a richer cake, substitute the oil with 1 Tablespoon of melted butter.
Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar before serving.
If your microwave is high wattage (over 1000W), start with 50 seconds of cooking time to prevent the cake from becoming dry.
