Make this ultra easy sheet pan candy combining saltine crackers, buttery toffee, cinnamon sugar, and melted chocolate for a crunchy, sweet, and salty snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and place it on a wire rack. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for exactly one minute, then remove from heat immediately.
  3. Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading quickly to cover them completely.
  4. Bake for exactly 5 minutes. The toffee should be bubbly.
  5. While the crackers bake, mix the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar together in a small bowl. This is your churro sugar.
  6. Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee layer. Let the chips sit for 5 minutes to soften.
  7. Spread the melted chocolate gently over the crackers using an offset spatula. Sprinkle the churro sugar mixture evenly over the melted chocolate.
  8. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until the chocolate is completely firm.
  9. Once set, break the toffee into irregular pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • For a cleaner break, you can score the chocolate with a knife before it fully sets in the refrigerator.
  • This recipe works well for holiday cookie trays and food gift tins.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with milk chocolate or dark chocolate.
