Make this zesty, creamy cilantro lime sauce in just five minutes. It works perfectly as a versatile dipping sauce, dressing for salads, or topping for tacos and grilled meats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (or mayonnaise for richer flavor)
  • 1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 small jalapeño, seeded (for mild heat)

Instructions

  1. Place the Greek yogurt, cilantro, lime juice, garlic, salt, and pepper into a food processor or high-speed blender.
  2. If you want a spicy kick, add the seeded jalapeño now.
  3. Process the ingredients until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy. Stop and scrape down the sides as needed.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning, adding more salt or lime juice if you prefer a stronger flavor.
  5. If the sauce is too thick for your needs (like a dressing), add water, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  6. Serve immediately, or store covered in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute the Greek yogurt with vegan mayonnaise or soaked raw cashews blended with water.
  • This sauce is an excellent marinade for chicken or fish; let the meat sit in the sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
  • The flavor deepens after chilling; make this ahead of time for best results when serving as a dressing.
