Make this comforting, family-friendly creamy beef pasta in one pot. This recipe delivers rich, savory flavor in about 30 minutes, making it a perfect quick ground beef skillet meal for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 8 ounces uncooked pasta (such as penne or rotini)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the pot with the beef and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and add the undrained diced tomatoes. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Add the uncooked pasta to the boiling liquid. Stir well to prevent sticking.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed. Stir occasionally.
  7. Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and velvety.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

  • For a higher protein pasta dish, use lean ground beef.
  • You can substitute the heavy cream with half-and-half for a slightly lighter sauce.
  • This recipe works well with almost any short pasta shape.
