Make rich, comforting hot chocolate with minimal effort using your slow cooker. This recipe is perfect for keeping a large batch warm for cozy nights or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 gallon whole milk
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Pour the whole milk and sweetened condensed milk into your slow cooker.
  2. Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, and cocoa powder to the liquid.
  3. Stir all ingredients together until they are well combined.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
  6. Reduce the heat setting to KEEP WARM until you are ready to serve.
  7. Serve the hot chocolate in mugs with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For an extra rich flavor, substitute 1 cup of the whole milk with heavy cream.
  • If you want a hint of spice, add 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon with the cocoa powder.
  • Keep the slow cooker on the LOW setting for serving; high heat can cause the milk to scorch on the bottom.
  • Serve with marshmallows, whipped cream, or peppermint sticks.
