Ingredients
Scale
6 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup your favorite BBQ sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional, for extra stickiness)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with foil for easier cleanup.
Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. This helps the skin crisp.
In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to create a rub.
Rub the spice mixture evenly over all surfaces of the chicken thighs.
Place the seasoned thighs on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 25 minutes.
While the chicken bakes, mix your BBQ sauce with the optional brown sugar in a small bowl.
Remove the chicken from the oven. Brush a generous layer of the BBQ sauce mixture over the tops of the thighs.
Return the chicken to the oven and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius) and the sauce is caramelized and sticky.
Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra crispy skin, place the chicken on a wire rack set inside the baking sheet before baking.
If you prefer a thicker glaze, apply a second layer of sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
This recipe works well for meal prep; store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
