A refreshing pitcher cocktail perfect for fall gatherings, featuring apple cider, red wine, and warm spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup brandy (optional)
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 pear, cored and thinly sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 cup sugar (optional, for sweeter sangria)
  • Sparkling water or club soda, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, apple cider, brandy (if using), and orange liqueur.
  2. Add the sliced orange, apple, and pear to the pitcher.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon sticks and sugar (if using).
  4. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. To serve, pour the sangria into glasses filled with ice. Top with a splash of sparkling water or club soda.
  6. Garnish with extra fruit slices if desired.

Notes

  • For a white sangria, use a crisp white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc and add some cranberries.
  • To make a nonalcoholic version, replace the wine with more apple cider and omit the brandy and orange liqueur. Add a splash of lemon or lime juice for brightness.
  • This sangria can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to your preference.
