A quick and flavorful marinade that makes tuna steaks tender and delicious, perfect for grilling or pan-searing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish or a resealable plastic bag, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, honey, and red pepper flakes if using.
  2. Add the tuna steaks to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated.
  3. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes. Do not marinate for longer, as the acid can start to ‘cook’ the fish.
  4. Remove tuna steaks from the marinade, discarding the excess marinade.
  5. Grill or pan-sear the tuna steaks to your desired doneness. For medium-rare, grill over high heat for 2-3 minutes per side.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh ginger and garlic.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your spice preference.
  • This marinade is also excellent for salmon or other firm fish.
