Create a restaurant-quality Parmesan crusted tilapia at home. This recipe delivers tender, flaky fish with a crispy, golden crust using simple baking methods, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

  • 4 (5 ounce) tilapia fillets, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the tilapia fillets dry using paper towels. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, grated Parmesan cheese, panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, dried parsley, salt, and black pepper until combined into a thick paste.
  4. Spread the Parmesan mixture evenly over the top surface of each tilapia fillet, pressing gently to help it adhere.
  5. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork, and the crust is golden brown and crisp. Cooking time depends on fillet thickness.
  6. Remove from the oven and serve immediately with fresh lemon wedges.

Notes

  • For an Air Fryer Parmesan Tilapia, cook at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes, checking for doneness halfway through.
  • To make this a Low Carb Parmesan Tilapia, substitute the panko breadcrumbs with almond flour or crushed pork rinds.
  • If you prefer a brighter flavor, add 1 teaspoon of lemon zest to the Parmesan topping mixture.
