Make a tender, flavorful slow cooker turkey breast with minimal effort. Slow-cooked to perfection, this juicy turkey is ideal for weeknight dinners or special occasions. This easy turkey breast slow cooker recipe frees up your oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3 to 5 pound) boneless or bone-in turkey breast
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the turkey breast dry with paper towels. If using a bone-in breast, tuck any loose skin underneath.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over the entire surface of the turkey breast.
  4. Pour the chicken broth or water into the bottom of your slow cooker.
  5. Place the seasoned turkey breast in the slow cooker, skin-side up if possible. If using butter, place the pieces on top of the turkey.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 5 to 7 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours. Cooking time depends on the size of the breast.
  7. The turkey is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and let it rest on a cutting board, loosely tented with foil, for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing.
  9. If you desire gravy, skim fat from the liquid remaining in the slow cooker. Thicken the remaining liquid with a cornstarch slurry (1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water) and simmer until thickened.

Notes

  • For bone-in turkey breast, allow an extra 30 to 60 minutes of cooking time.
  • This recipe works well for a smaller family Thanksgiving, freeing up your oven space.
  • If you want a crispier skin, carefully transfer the turkey to a baking sheet after cooking and broil for 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
