Make incredibly soft and chewy sugar cookies with this easy recipe. Perfect for holidays or any occasion, these cookies require no chilling and are ready to bake in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: Sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  7. If desired, gently press sprinkles onto the tops of the cookies.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra chewy cookies, slightly underbake them.
  • You can easily adapt these cookies for holidays by using colored sprinkles or adding a touch of food coloring to the dough.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
