Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning
1 (16 ounce) can refried beans
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup chopped green onions, for topping
1/4 cup sliced black olives, optional for topping
1/4 cup sliced pickled jalapeños, optional for topping
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate or a similar sized oven-safe dish.
Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully browned. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir the taco seasoning into the cooked ground beef according to the packet directions. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.
Spread the refried beans evenly over the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
Spread the cream cheese and sour cream mixture over the layer of beans.
Spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture evenly over the cream cheese layer.
Top the beef layer with the shredded Monterey Jack cheese and the shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dip is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove the dip from the oven. Sprinkle with green onions, jalapeños, and olives, if you are using them.
Serve hot with tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks. This is the best texas trash dip recipe for game day snacks.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, skip the ground beef and use an extra can of refried beans or substitute with black beans.
You can assemble this dip up to 24 hours ahead of time; cover and refrigerate. Add 5-10 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
This dip is a great potluck appetizer because it stays warm well in a slow cooker on the low setting.
